Apiary site evaluation
Walk a prospective yard and rate it honestly on the ten factors the extension literature names. The score will not make the decision for you — but the Poor lines will tell you what a site will cost you, season after season.

Where the factors come from. The ten factors and what "good" means for each are drawn from Apiary Sites, MAAREC Publication 1.5 (Mid-Atlantic Apiculture Research and Extension Consortium, University of Delaware, 2020) — forage close and diverse with early pollen; fresh water near but above flood level; morning sun with southern or eastern exposure and light afternoon shade; air circulation with protection from direct wind; ground above flooding with good drainage; forage free of repeated pesticide applications; vehicle access on firm, dry ground all year, with room to work and expand; flight paths directed away from traffic, people, and animals; distance from traffic and human or animal disturbance; and screening from view. The 0–2 scoring and the bands are Hive Movers' own arithmetic on those published factors — MAAREC publishes the criteria, not a score.
